What is the Master Gardener Program?

The Montana Master Gardener Program is an educational and volunteer service program.  Master Gardeners are an important resource in our community helping to provide fact-based horticulture information and support the county Extension agent.

To become a certified Master Gardener you must take the 16 hour Gardening in Montana Course, pass the take home exam and then complete 20 hours of volunteer work.

You can go the Statewide Master Gardener Page to learn more or contact our office.

You do not need to become a Master Gardener to take the class, but we do encourage you to.

What will you cover in the Gardening In Montana Class?

  • Intro to MSU Extension and Master Gardener
  • Soils, Nutrients and Fertility
  • Plant Growth and Development
  • Vegetable Gardening
  • Growing Small Fruit and Tree Fruit
  • Herbaceous and Woody Ornamentals
  • Landscape Design

  • Lawns and lawn  alternatives
