Hello, my name is Mateo Ángel and I am studying Soil and Water Science here atMontana State University. I am a second-generation Cuban immigrant, with my Cuban
heritagetracing back to my father’s side and a very culturally focused mother. I grew up in
the small town of Van Meter, Iowa, and, after a childhood of outdoorsing in the Midwest
and some Rocky Mountain exploring, I decided to come out to Montana for college. I love the woods and am currently researching some soils I collected in the Bob Marshall
Wilderness Complex, where I work over the summers. I am very conservation and forestry focused, hopingto bring a background of soils to the forestry industry across the NW Rockies in my
future.

Hi there! I’m Abbie Hollingsworth from St. Paul, Minnesota, and I am pursuing a B.S. in
Microbiology at Montana State University. I conduct research in Dr. Jovanka Voyich’s lab under Ph.D. candidate Patti Brewster, focusing on Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae (M. ovi), a bacterium that causes pneumonia in bighorn sheep and threatens the species by reducing lamb recruitment.
My project aims to develop improved methods for culturing this fastidious organism to support future research and conservation. My academic goals include attending medical school or pursuing advanced research in microbiology. Outside the lab, I enjoy exploring the outdoors, sharing good food and conversation with friends, and spending time with my family.
