JANUARY 19TH LIVESTOCK COMMITTEE MEETING (UNAPPROVED)
6:00PM EXTENSION OFFICE
IN ATTENDANCE: LESLIE LONG, COOPER GERVAIS, TREVOR GERVAIS, CORRY ARNTZEN, GISELE YAEGER, CODY REAM, REBA ALGHREN (REMOTE), AMANDA GILETTE (REMOTE)
MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 6:05PM BY CODY.
MINUTES FROM THE NOV. 11, 2025 LIVESTOCK COMMITTEE MEETING WERE READ AND APPROVED (M-GISELE; 2ND – TREVOR).
GISELETE PROVIDED THE TREASURER REPORT AS OF 1/19 BEING $24,534.26 TOTAL. THIS INCREASED FROM THE NOV. MEETING WITH THE DEPOSIT OF THE 2025 FAIR SALES COMMISSION FUNDS.
$16,402.99 – livestock
$4,674.73 – pavilion sound system
$3,456.54 – restricted awards
THE FINANCIAL REPORT WAS APPROVED. (M-COOPER; 2ND – CORRY).
A DONATION OF $694 FROM MOORE FARMERS OIL WAS ANNOUNCED BY CORRY. THIS WAS FUNDS MFO CHOSE TO DONATE THROUGH THEIR CRYSTALLIX CARES PROGRAM. THESE FUNDS WILL GO INTO LIVESTOCK’S GENERAL FUND.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
· BUDGET (Corry/Leslie/Gisele)– will discuss during Old Business.
· AWARDS (Judi/Jared) – Judi Martin has received last year’s awards and banner orders, additional buckle company suggestions, and list of the 2025 awards sponsors. She and Jared Long will be working to propose awards plan.
· PHOTO (Corry) – Corry presented the proposal from Amanda Dawn Photography for fair photos Wed., Thus, Fri of fair for $1,500 fee. Discussion by group to include approval with passing of budget in New Business.
· CLINIC (Cody) – Cody reported a State Vet will be coming February 7th to cover bio-security with animal shows and transport. He said he will email all members advance notice
· SALE LOGISTICS (Corry, Cody, Cory) – Corry will work to hold a meeting with Sale Manager Joel Sewell, Cody Ream, and Livestock Superintendents. Cody stated there was leftover wood chips from Winter Fair that are in small animal barn for Livestock Committee use.
· SALE MEAL (Tami, Mardi S) – No report except $300 was deposited to Livestock from Food Booth account for resale of left-over sale meal items.
· JUDGES (Cody/Josh) – Cody reported he believes the same judge will return for fair with request for AirBnB instead of hotel room. Additional discussion ensued about obtaining the same AirBnB in leui of the Super 8 hotel room. CODY is to find out where he stayed, availability and pricing of that same location to reserve for judge in 2025.
OLD BUSINESS:
· Budget Committee recommended drafted budget at a $50 loss on the year, noting the following:
o New or increased items planned for 2026 including $500 increase to sale/fair photography, $1,500 new for portacooler/sale equipment rental, $500 increase in ultrasound, $700 increase in sale meal.
o Award buckles/banners is estimated at $4,500 expense and $3,000 income from sponsorship resulting in a loss of $1,500.
o There are some conservative buffers built in for online sale expense at $1,000 and miscellaneous expense/supplies at $1,000 that we don’t foresee happening.
o After discussion the proposed budget was approved (M-Gisele; 2nd – Trevor).
NEW BUSINESS:
· Cody reported the office ran out of beef tags and he had to purchase tags. Discussion suggested Cody reach out to MFO/Hubbard/etc. for tags ahead of swine and sheep tagging window.
· Additional discussion included:
o Creating a “Fair List” to ensure we’re not dropping the ball on items like obtaining: wood chips pallets, hauled wood for beef pens, Sale Ring chair rental, portacooler, auctioneer, etc. Corry said she would get the sale logistics committee together in near future to begin going through the list.
o Superintendent meeting for pavilion layout to report at the March livestock meeting and to the Fair Board.
o Additions to Fairbook to include the Champion of Champions addition.
o Beef Stall checkout and Tie Out options. At this time there were 49 steer tags and 18 heifer tags dispersed.
· Additional items/Follow Up/Reminder List for Cody to handle in coming weeks:
o Air BnB reservation for judge – Cody to work with Josh Stroh to determine where, availability and pricing
o Additional livestock tags donated for the swine and sheep tagging window.
o Reviewing Fair Book for necessary additions/changes – including Champion of Champions.
o Working with Fairboard to determine Beef Stall availability and working with Beef Superintendent on potential tie out needs.
o Securing Sheriff’s Complex for next meeting
