As a founding organization of the Montana Small Schools Alliance, MSU and the CRRE are committed to supporting small, rural, and remote schools and their communities across the state. As part of our service, we are developing an accessible listing of open rural teaching positions in MSSA member schools. This webpage is a new initiative from CRRE and is currently being launched as a proof of concept. With grant support from the Rural Schools Collaborative, we will expand this resource to include tools that all rural schools will be able to use to share the story of their rural school and showcase the strengths of their community to prospective job seekers.

Trego Elementary is seeking an educator to further refine the proficiency-based instructional
program that we’re developing. We’re in the process of aligning all departments to
support reading and writing, and have recently received the MT Reads Literacy Grant
to help with this project. This fall, we’ll be welcoming a non-profit preschool into
our library wing, piloting a homeschool/public hybrid program, expanding our library
and reading programs, and shifting towards literacy based curriculum.
We are a small, rural K-8 district nestled in the mountains of NW Montana. It’s a
beautiful area, with outdoor recreation opportunities all year long, about an hour
drive away from Glacier National Park. The district is able to provide housing: a
two-bedroom house with a small, fenced yard, located on the school grounds. Base salary
is $41,615, with extra duty stipends available.

Kester School is currently accepting applications for a K-8 grade teaching position. Applicants must be a self-starter, creative, highly organized, with the ability to multi-task, and be willing to work collaboratively with other members of the school, staff, and parents. Due to the location and size of the school the teacher is responsible for all areas of study including music, art, physical education, a Christmas Program, as well as other duties required at a rural school.
Kester School is a one-room country school located 26 miles Northeast of Jordan, MT, on an all-weather gravel road. Due to the remote location of the school, teacher must be able to obtain valid driver license and their own transportation. The school is rooted in the middle of an agriculture community that also has amazing access to recreational areas for hunting, fishing, and hiking. The school district was established in 1930, with various buildings and moves transpiring over the years. The current building and location of the school has been here since the mid 1960’s. Over recent years the school has been through several renovations, anywhere from new siding and windows to a mono-slab heated floor. The school also had an addition built on to it that added a lunch/multi-purpose room and library/OT room. There are many technological advances incorporated in the school as well. All students have their own I-pad and computer, there is a Smart Board, and every few years new curriculum is purchased to keep up with the Standards. School is a four-day week with a current enrollment of one student.
Housing provided is an unfurnished 2015 Shultz 16 x 80 three bedroom, two bath mobile home, with central air, and an attached mudroom close to the school, utilities included. Housing is fenced separately from the school yard. There is also an unattached one car garage available for use. The housing is also pet friendly upon of the approval of the school district.
