Dr. Steven Swinford

Vice President for Student Success
 
Dr. Steven Swinford earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from Bowling Green State University and has been a dedicated member of Montana State University for over 25 years. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Swinford has held positions such as Vice Provost and professor and has taught a variety of courses, including research methods, family violence, culture, social psychology, and social stratification. His research focuses on topics such as couple violence, substance use among emerging adults, and advancements in survey methodologies. Beyond his research and teaching commitments, Dr. Swinford actively participates in initiatives aimed at enhancing programs for student retention, persistence, and graduation at MSU.

Shannon DeRosa

Shannon DeRosa grew up in Bozeman and is excited to work on campus as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Student Success at Montana State University. A lifelong Bobcat, she earned both a BA and MA in English Literature as well as her teaching degree from MSU. Before joining the Office of the Vice President for Student Success, Shannon built her career in education and now enjoys supporting students, staff, and university leadership in fostering a thriving campus community. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, hiking, and listening to true crime podcasts.

Meredith Given  

Business Operations Manager

Meredith Given grew up in Richmond, Virginia. After graduating highschool, she spent a year working in Zaragoza, Spain, where she discovered her passion for travelling and the Spanish language. Following her year abroad, Meredith attended James Madison University, earning a BA in Spanish and International Affairs. She is currently pursuing a M.Ed in International Educational Leadership. Meredith originally came to Montana to ski instruct at Big Sky resort, where she instructed for four winters before joining the VPSS staff in the fall of 2024. Meredith presently serves as the business operations manager offering support to multiple offices, and of course, the MSU students.
