Qualifying Expenses include but are not limited to:
Food, housing (rent), utilities, online course materials or technology, childcare, transportation, healthcare. Please note: Tuition, non-emergency travel, pet expenses and recreation are not qualifying expenses

  2. Provide brief but specific detail regarding your unexpected emergency situation and how this deviates from what you would have expected your situation to be at this time. This should explain how you find yourself in need of funds and what you have done to counter the circumstance. A clear timeline should be included that highlights the immediacy of the situation. The list below is an example of some qualifying situations:
    • Recently experiencing a medical emergency/surgery
    • Recently losing a job
    • Recently losing income due to a personal illness
    • Replacement of essential belongings, due to fire, theft, or natural disaster
    • Travel costs related to the death or illness of an immediate family member

EXAMPLE: I was laid off from my job last week and I now have no sources of income. I have been struggling to find a job, and I have applied for various jobs but am now behind on bills and need help.
Student stories can be shared with your name or anonymously (Include my name/ share my story anonymously). Sharing the stories of the MSU students who need financial help during this time is the best way to gain additional contributions to this program - which will allow us to provide additional funding to more students.
