Description of Request

Submitted By: Steve Swinford, Vice President for Student Success

The Space Management Committee recommends the approval of the allocation of Strand Union Building (SUB) room 134 to provide a permanent location, for the student-run Bobcat Career Closet throughout the academic year. This request has also been reviewed and approved by the SUB Advisory Board. At present, the Bobcat Career Closet operates only in advance of Career Fair and stores clothing off campus, limiting access and visibility. The Bobcat Career Closet provides students with free access to professional clothing and career-readiness support, and establishing a storefront location in a highly visible area of the Strand Union Building would significantly expand access by allowing students to obtain or borrow professional attire, including shirts, ties, slacks, and dresses, for interviews and career-related events throughout the year. The centralized location would also streamline and encourage community donation drop-offs, further supporting the program’s sustainability and student success efforts. The space is currently vacant, and this allocation would require a change in use from an office to student resource facility.
