EHHD/Extension Applied Research Lab (EARL): Reid Hall
Description of Request
Submitted By: Dr. Michelle Grocke, Dept Head Human Development and Community Health; MSU Extension
The Space Management Committee recommends approval of the Education, Health & Human Development Extension Applied Research Lab (EARL) request to change the use of Reid Hall 423 and 423A from an underutilized computer lab to a research space. The rooms have seen minimal use in recent years, and existing technology no longer supports current operating systems, limiting their continued functionality as a computer lab.
The proposed reassignment will support four EHHD tenure-track faculty who hold Extension Specialist roles and provide collaborative workspace for graduate students and undergraduate interns engaged in applied research and outreach activities. The space will also consolidate Extension materials currently housed in Reid 205, and provide a visible location to showcase EHHD Extension initiatives. Reid 423A will serve as shared PhD workspace and a private setting for research activities requiring confidentiality.

Date: February 6, 2026
