MSU student from Sandpoint recognized for civic service with national award

Jamie Diehl, a senior at Montana State University from Sandpoint, Idaho, has been selected for a Newman Civic Fellows Award recognizing college student leaders who make a difference in their communities.

Diehl, a family and consumer science education major with a minor in women's and gender studies, has also completed the Accredited Financial Counseling program. She is coordinator of Hopa Mountain's youth leadership program. She has served as a Child Advancement Project (CAP) mentor for four years, and is involved with numerous student organizations on campus. She serves as the president of the Phi U honorary service organization and is the president of the Montana Education Association-Montana Federation of Teachers student chapter. A member of Amnesty International, Diehl is a 4-H leader and was chosen to sit on the National Education Association's Women's Issues Committee. She was also recently recognized by Montana Campus Compact for the Montana Campus Corps Award for Exemplary Service.

Diehl was nominated for the award by the MSU Office for Community Involvement and MSU President Waded Cruzado. She was one of 137 students from 30 states named Newman Civic Fellows by Campus Compact, a national coalition of more than 1,100 college and university presidents committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education.
