  4. Office of Sustainability: Review of Communication Strategies for Spring 2026
    1. Office of Sustainability (OS) reviewed reflections from Fall 2025 and summarized feedback from CSAC members, the Campus Climate Coalition, public comments, and ASMSU. OS emphasized a strategic shift toward focusing on improving communication around sustainability programming, especially related to curriculum, data, and opportunities for student engagement. This shift will be enhanced through strengthened relationships with academic departments and campus partners.
  5. CSAC Working Session: Revisit and Discuss Definition of “Sustainability in the Curriculum”
    1. OS reviewed the existing CSAC-developed definition of sustainability in the curriculum and its alignment with AASHE/STARS guidance. The group discussed the importance of using a consistent, established definition while remaining open to refinement, potentially incorporating input from the incoming Director of the Office of Sustainability. No changes were made at this time.
  6. Working Group Updates
    1. Scope 1 and 2 Communications: Engineering and Utilities and the OS are developing new visual communications to enhance understanding of subjects like Scope 2 emissions and purchased energy. The Energy Performance Contract will provide additional strategies to conserve energy across campus.
    2. Zero Waste: MSU reduced trash generation year-to-year from July through November and increased composting. Student interns supported grassroots waste reduction initiatives. The OS continues to welcome feedback on an annual waste report, which identifies new strategies and establishes baseline data.
